Eight o'clock departure time comes too early again but we must get going to catch the ferry across inland sea from Kumamoto to /Shikoku Island. There are 6,800 islands in Japan Seas. About 1,000 islands were in the path of the Tsunami two years ago. This ferry again carried the buses on the lower level and its upper levels were very comfortable for us people. It even had a special area for people who preferred to sit or stretch out on the floor (with no shoes, of course). Great area for traveling with little children and for the pilgrims going to the Temple of Stone in the Palm. One such pilgrim in this group told
Meiei a moving story about changing his life when he prayed at a temple, so each year he comes back to this island visiting half of the 88 temples here each time. Right, 44 this year and 44 next year, then back to the first ones the next year.
