Day 16 - Road to Delhi

India Journal March 8 - 15  Day 16 - 23

Day 16 - Friday, March 8:  Without these road trips between sites and cities, how would we get a sense of the pace and industry of the people here.  Never boring, for sure.  Today we drive from Jaipur to Delhi to end up at the over-the-top Trident Hotel.  We had been trying to catch pictures of the trucks from our bus window .. with no luck… so today we asked Vijay to stop when he saw some trucks we could photograph while not moving.  He stopped at a truck repair cluster and we got some nice shots -- especially the inside cab decorations.  The drivers were eager to share and seemed pleased that we wanted to take pictures.

He also found us a working camel who stopped for us.  We've seen many but most of our photos only show their rear ends as we pass them by.   We continue to enjoy the bright sari colors of the women working in the wheat fields or walking along the dusty roads.  They seem to wear Teflon silk to be able to stay so bright in such dirt.

The scenery changes from farm to commercial as we approach Delhi and more cars join the mix of heavy trucks and motor bikes. We pull in the Trident Hotel and agree this hotel is over the top. The design made us want to know more about the designer.  The front desk staff told me that the Thai architect, Mr. Lek Bunnag, used Thai and Moroccan elements to achieve height, light and space.  We got the feeling he had pulled lines from the 16th century Mughals and made them modern.  Photos don't capture the feeling we get from the expansive reflecting pools, flames, glass, line and simplicity.  The room was a design gem as well.   Dinner at the Trident might have been one of our best meals… maybe because of the hot chocolate rolls.  Tomorrow we tour the city.
